Rules Docket Open for Public Comment
On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) reviewed rule docket 13-0110-2201 as part of the Governor Brad Little’s Executive Order (2020-01) for zero-based regulation (ZBR) which includes the goal to cut restrictive language and unnecessary regulations. As sportsmen and women, it is important for you to be aware of these rule change as they are making their way through the process. This rule docket pertains to the governing of these rules around wildlife:
Importation
Possession
Release
Sale
Or salvage
These rules are related to the commercial and non commercial importation and transportation permits issued for captive wildlife, disease of captive wildlife, recovery, possession and sale of wildlife parts. Additionally, they prohibit the possession, importation, and transportation of deer, elk, moose, and carcasses from:
Areas with known instances of chronic wasting disease
Private parks
Commercial wildlife facilities
Operations of shooting preserves for domestic game birds
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has higher authority over these rules. Because of this, IDFG has opted to keep the authority with the USDA for the feeding of wildlife licenses at commercial wildlife facilities as a way to reduce the regulatory burden on IDFG. Additional clarity and guidelines were added to ensure procedure of removal of deceased wildlife is done correctly.
There is an opportunity to provide public comment on this rules docket until Wednesday, October 26. If you have any questions or need additional background information, please get in touch with us.
